A thin layer of ice forms inside my veins
It creeps along the vessels, into the atrium and spreads quickly into my lungs
I exhale a frozen vapor and my throat catches on the sharp edges

It hasn’t always been this hard for us
Even laughter once muffled indifference brewing beneath convincing…
